The Distribution of Action Movements (DAM) Descriptor is a state of the art (as of 2014) descriptor for Human Action Recognition.
In this site you'll find a reference to the paper, a MATLAB/OCTAVE implementation of the descriptor and classification model, and MATLAB/OCTAVE scripts to prepare the MSRC12 and Action3D datasets and convert them to a format suitable for the model.
